Canadian broadcaster SPACE have confirmed via Twitter that they will be broadcasting the new spin-off series Class from 22nd October, the same day the series launches in the United Kingdom.

But BBC America won’t show it until Spring 2017. 😦

5 Things We Learned About Doctor Who Spinoff Class From Their Livestream Q&A

Class

Premieres October 22

Class is almost in session! Fans of the Doctor will recognize the setting of the new Doctor Who spinoff series: it’s Coal Hill School (Clara Oswald and Danny Pink are counted among the institution’s former faculty). Unfortunately for its students, Clara’s no longer around. And then there’s the fact that the school seems to be a rendezvous point for all kinds of otherworldly and extraterrestrial lifeforms.

“Coal Hill School has been a part of the Doctor Who Universe since the very beginning,” reads the BBC’s synopsis, “but that has come at a price. All the time travelling over the years has caused the very walls of space and time to become thin. There’s something pressing in on the other side, something waiting for its chance to kill everyone and everything, to bring us all into Shadow.”

But what exactly is lurking in this ominous shadow and will the Doctor step in to help? Here’s what we found out during today’s livestreamed Q&A session with cast members Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins, and Vivian Oparah, plus show producer Derek Ritchie:

1. Peter Capaldi WILL be making an appearance on the show. “He’s a madman,” say the cast, who were in awe of the Twelfth Doctor’s arrival on set. “The energy was electric. We were all quite blown away.”

2. The titles for episodes one and two are intriguing and they hint at the show’s darker tone. The series is most definitely for a YA (and up) audience—it’s too dark and too raw for younger kids. Think: Buffy meets the Who universe. Need convincing? On the first day of filming, the cast said that there was so much fake blood on set they felt nauseous.

3. Writer Patrick Ness was originally asked to write for Doctor Who but says he preferred to get involved with an original series. That’s when the Who team brought up the topic of Coal Hill School and the new spinoff show.

4. The teaching staff has changed a bit since Clara’s time at Coal Hill. Miss Quill is rumoured to be nothing like her former colleague. She’s sarcastic, she makes sure you know she’s smarter than you, and she might have a bit of an evil streak.

5. The TV premiere date is October 22 and the show’s stars describe the episode as “epic, heartfelt, and awesome.”

To paraphrase the series tagline, “Fear is coming, tragedy is coming, war is coming. Prepare yourselves” the eight-part series Class will air in just four weeks!
