I just polished off the first 4 issue of ear two of The Ninth Doctor and the First 5 of Year Two of The Twelfth Doctor.
He warned you! 🙂
The 2nd Year of both of these comics contained some very self-referential humor. I mean the Ninth Doctor went to an alien and encountered DWAS, the Doctor Who Appreciation Society (which is real).
The Twelfth Doctor meets a Villain (No spoilers) who use Comic Books and Comic fans as their fodder. Lots of in-jokes, but also a lot of inspired understanding of the audience.
And he does in fact, break the 4th Wall. 🙂
The Ninth Doctor encounters a Classic Who Monster who is well overdue for a 21st Century makeover (again, no spoilers) in a wonderfully played scenario. The politics in it, humorous but somewhat dubious in my humble opinion, but it didn’t detract from the story at all unlike some of the early Tennant Titan comics which were far too 2×4 to the head.
The Writers of these two, Cavan Scott & Robbie Morrison are to be highly commended for stepping up the Titan Comics game.
But both felt like their eras. The characters ran true.
You should pick these up. They are what a good Doctor Who read is all about.
Well, I have more to read… 🙂
